Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Wisdom teeth extraction is a common procedure for many people, and it’s important to understand why it is performed, what you can expect from the procedure, and how to care for your mouth afterwards. As a dentist, it’s our job to make sure our patients are informed and comfortable throughout the entire process.

Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars to emerge in the mouth and are typically the last to come in, usually between the ages of 17 and 25. For some people, their wisdom teeth may not be able to fit properly into their mouths or may not emerge at all. This can cause overcrowding, damage to other teeth, and even pain and infection.

Wisdom teeth extraction is performed to remove these teeth from the mouth in order to prevent any of these issues from occurring. The procedure itself typically takes between 30 minutes to an hour and can be done under either local or general anesthesia, depending on the complexity of the extraction. During the extraction, we will make a small incision in the gum line and then use a special tool to carefully remove the wisdom teeth. In some cases, we may need to cut the teeth into smaller pieces in order to remove them safely. After the extraction is complete, we will close the incision with sutures. After the procedure, it’s important to take care of your mouth to ensure a successful recovery.
