Crown N Bridges

A dental crown and bridge is a permanent replacement to your missing teeth. The dental bridge acts as any other bridge by filling up the gap between two existing teeth. The teeth on either side are taken as support for the bridge. The bridge replaces the missing teeth region.
Dental Crowns or “caps” as some call them, are custom-made covers for teeth that has undergone a root canal treatment (leaving behind very little tooth structure), cracked or weakened teeth or teeth that are so decayed that a regular filling isn’t sufficient.

WHEN IS DENTAL CROWN NEEDED?

Dental crowns are used as caps on missing or fractured teeth to protect the life of your teeth. Dental Crowns are needed to:

  1. Protect or restore a tooth from fracturing due to accident or trauma
  2. Replace a tooth which is too large for a filling
  3. Get a cap over Implant placed
  4. Restore the tooth on which RCT was performed
  5. Cover discolored, misshaped or badly formed tooth
  6. If bridge is required then crowns are must

In addition, Dental Crown gives your tooth the strength, shape, size and helps to improve the appearance of your tooth. If your dentist has advised you to get a crown and you are delaying the process then there are chances that you can damage your tooth to the extent that extraction is the last resort.

Dental Crowns can be made in variety materials such as:

Metal Crowns

If someone is looking for long term and the durable solution then metal crowns are to the rescue. The gold crowns in these are the most used and bonds well with the tooth. These can even withstand hard chewing forces and biting. Being stronger they last longer and do not wear down easily. The only drawback is that they are visible from a distance hence, suitable only for molars.

Porcelain-Fused-To-Metal

If you have aesthetic concerns and also wish to have metal crowns inserted then these are the best option available. The inside of the teeth is made up of metal and the outer portion of the crown is made of porcelain, as a result, it has the dual advantage – metal which provides strength and porcelain which matches with the color of the teeth making it look like natural teeth. They look the most like natural teeth.

Ceramic Crown

If you do not want to have metal inserted inside your mouth but want the strength to match metal crowns then ceramic crowns are the best option available. Not only they are strong but blends more naturally with your tooth color making it unnoticed. They don’t let you have any aesthetic concerns and are the best option for the front, back and even for the bridges. The problem of porcelain wearing down and metal being visible is solved by these.

Advantages of Dental Crowns

Dental crowns provide an adequate solution to a range of dental problems. They are able to:

  1. Support a tooth that has been significantly damaged by decay.
  2. Protect a tooth that has worn away from being damaged further.
  3. Protect a tooth after a root canal procedure.
  4. Hold a severely cracked or broken tooth together.
  5. Cover a dental implant.
  6. Improve the appearance of a tooth by changing its shape or color.
  7. Dental crowns are a good long-term option because they are durable and usually last for at least 5-15 years, which increases patient satisfaction with the treatment.
  8. Treatment with dental crowns has a high success rate with respect to either other dental restoration methods or no treatment at all. This has been supported by various scientific studies which researched their use.
